Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy

2021

Infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopy is one of the most important analytical techniques available to study different kinds of samples including solids, semisolids, biological materials, films, liquids, solutions, and gases. IR spectroscopy not only uses the so-called infrared absorption, but also other techniques such as the attenuated total reflection method, diffuse reflectance method, reflection-absorption method, photoacoustic spectroscopy, and emission spectroscopy. IR spectroscopy is a technique based on the vibrations of the atoms of a molecule. An infrared spectrum is obtained by passing infrared radiation through a sample and determining what fraction of the incident radiation is …

Shared learning process among students of the Health Sciences and Electronic Engineering Department and students of professional training in the area…

2019

[EN] The objective of this proposal for educational innovation is to facilitate the learning of complex concepts and their relationship with reality, through peer-to-peer training, in where two scenarios will be shared: university and professional training. We propose an experience in which University students in the area of Electronic Technology and Health, specifically from the degrees of Industrial Electronics Engineering, Physiotherapy and Nursing, previously trained in the concepts of radiation and its types, infrared radiation, its use in health in both treatment and diagnosis, thermoregulation and thermography with the visual thinking tool, can transversally share a teaching scenario…

Polarization of the Radiation Emitted in GaAs Semiconductors Driven by Far Infrared Fields

2010

The effects due to the mixing of two far infrared electric fields on the harmonic generation process in low doped GaAs bulks are studied by a three dimensional multivalleys Monte Carlo simulation. The conversion efficiency is calculated by using the appropriate Maxwell equation for the propagation of an electro-magnetic wave along a given direction in the medium. In particular, we focus our attention on the polarization of the generated harmonics, by comparing the polarization obtained from the mixing of an oscillating field with a static electric field with that obtained in the presence of two cyclostationary fields, having an integer ratio between the two frequencies. The findings show th…

New sunphotometer for network operation.

1983

A handheld sunphotometer has been developed and is described. It operates for 9 wavelengths in the visible and near infrared. The sensitivity range is rather broad, so it can be used in turbid as well as clear atmospheres. The operation is simple, and a digital readout helps prevent operator biases. The instrument is sun powered and suitable for network operations. Determination of the atmospheric turbidity due to aerosol and the column content of O3, NO2, H2O is possible.

Multispectral Photophletysmography for Evaluation of Cutaneous Flowmotions

2021

Human skin may reflect health conditions. Important and possibly diagnostically potent components of microcirculation are slow flow oscillations-flowmotions, however there is a lack of studies in this field. The present pilot study was devoted to evaluation of multispectral imaging photoplethysmography in determination of different components of flowmotions. Eight subjects were enrolled for the study. During resting conditions video was captured from dorsal aspect of hand at seven different wavelength and flowmotion analysis performed. Results indicate that at the resting conditions neurogenic component along with endothelial are dominant regardless of wavelength, while myogenic has the low…

Tunability of Injection Seeded High-Repetition Rate Ti:Sapphire Laser Far Off the Gain Peak

2009

We have investigated a tunability of a high‐repetition rate Ti:Sapphire laser seeded off the gain peak. By applying a birefringent filter, the 7 kHz injection seeded Ti:Sapphire laser system was operated with the average seeding efficiency of over 90% and the output power of over 1 W on the spectral range of 900–930 nm. We conclude that the birefringent filter suited for widely tunable operation of the injection seeded Ti:Sapphire laser system operated at high repetition rate.

Variable selection for the determination of total polar materials in fried oils by near infrared spectroscopy

2018

Total polar materials (TPM) content is considered as the best indicator and the most common parameter to check the quality of deep-frying oils. The development of simpler and quicker analytical techniques than the available methods to monitor oil quality in restaurants and fried food outlets is an important topic related to the human health. This paper reports a comparison of the variable selection of near infrared (NIR) spectra by multiple linear regression (MLR-NIR) with partial least squares (PLS-NIR) models for the quantification of TPM in fried vegetable oils. The use of PLS-NIR offers an alternative in laboratory bench equipment for the determination of TPM in oils employed for fryin…

The 2016 CEOS Infrared Radiometer Comparison: Part II: Laboratory Comparison of Radiation Thermometers

2019

AbstractTo ensure confidence, measurements carried out by imaging radiometers mounted on satellites require robust validation using “fiducial quality” measurements of the same in situ parameter. For surface temperature measurements this is optimally carried out by radiometers measuring radiation emitted in the infrared region of the spectrum, collocated to that of a satellite overpass. For ocean surface temperatures the radiometers are usually on board ships to sample large areas but for land and ice they are typically deployed at defined geographical sites. It is of course critical that the validation measurements and associated instrumentation are internationally consistent and traceable …

A post-exercise infrared sauna session improves recovery of neuromuscular performance and muscle soreness after resistance exercise training

2023

The aim of this study was to investigate effects of a single infrared sauna (IRS) session on postexercise recovery of neuromuscular performance, autonomic nervous system function, subjective sleep quality, and muscle soreness. Male basketball players (n = 16) performed two trials consisting of a complex resistance exercise protocol (maximal strength with plyometrics), followed by either 20 min passive recovery (PAS) or IRS (temperature 43±5°C), in a randomized crossover design, with trials separated by one week. Recovery of neuromuscular performance was assessed using 20 m maximal sprint, maximal countermovement-jump (CMJ), and isometric leg press tests, performed 14 hours after exercise. H…
